Ilonggo to Bisaya

Hi mga friends!! yehey! mag five years na ako dito sa davao this coming October 13, 2008 and juz wanna share these funny words I've learned..

Funny??? Why?? hmmmmp! Hindi ko naman talaga alam ito dati eh.. kaya nga pinagtatawanan na lamang ako nga aking mga visayan classmates, officemates and lahat pang mga -mates ko...nyahehhehe pero ngayon.. But I've learned a lot lugi sila.. bleeeeehh :P

Now you'll know why for me, visayans are funny and for visayans, ilonggo are funny too.. lalo na kung magsasalita na.. ahahhahaha

This is the first funny word I've learned:

when cebuanos say : “Karon” lang Jean. They mean “now”
But when I hear the word “karon”, I mean “later”


Sabi pa ng isa kong kaibigan:(Ate Ethel Uriarte)
“Tara Jean mamainit ta”
Sagot ko,
“Cge te kay vitamins pa ang “init”


Tapos, I wonder why hindi siya umaalis sa kanyang kinauupuan.. iyon pala hinihintay nya akong kumuha ng pera sa bag, at siya bumili ng nga makain ngunit ako naman ay pumunta doon sa part na mainit..

Mamainit in bisaya is merienda.
Init in ilonggo equal to the tagalog meaning.



When bisaya say:

"langgam" they look up to the tree or to the clouds..

When I hear bisaya say:
"langgam" I look down.

You know why???

Here is the meaning:
Visayan: langgam is bird.
Ilonggo: langgam is equal to the tagalog meaning, ant.


In bisaya they call ants: lamigas, sulom
In ilonggo they call ants: subay


Ang problema: subay in bisaya is sinusunod or follow..halimbawa, may sinusunod kang path or way.. "subay sa dalan".



Sabi pa ng mga friends ko:

I am weird because I eat "anay" and "bala"... Waahhahahahaha
Sagot ko sa kanila:
Bisaya are weird too..they eat "sako" as in, kaon sa ko.

Sako in ilonggo is same translation in English.. wahahahah or pwede din "saku" meaning busy.. in sentence "Saku ko ah.. indi bala magsinabad."



Isang araw, inutusan akong bumili ng shampoo sa tindahan at sabi ko:

“Te, bakal ko shampoo”

Sabi ng tindera:
“unsa day? Bakal ang shampoo?? ayaw sad ana oi”

nyahahaha..hindi kami nagkakaintindihan kasi nga:


Bakal in bisaya is similar to the tagalog translation of the word..
Bakal in ilonggo is “Bibili”


At ang tamang sentence sana na sinabi ko ay:

“Te, Palit ko Shampoo”


If the tindera is ilongga, at sasabihin ng bisaya na “palit” ko.
most likely she/he will either point you to the nearest changing area or give you a change..
ilonggos translate that as similar to the tagalog translation of the word..


Dati, I am wondering why my visayan girl-friends hated “bugas” very much.

Oh my Gosh!

Sa aming mga hiligaynon..

we cook and eat the "bugas"
because "bugas" is rice grain.

Then I've been realized that, “Bugas” it also refers to pimple in cebuano. Kahit ang rice grain ay “bugas” din.

At heto ang pinaka binggo! Nalaman ko na kenken, kiking or baki ang palayaw ng officemate/friend ko at lam nyo ba kung ano ang ginawa ko?? Inisa-isa ko lang naman ang tawag sa frog:

Heto iyon..

Frog, palaka, baki, paka, Butete.. ang baby nito ay tadpoles, butete or ulok-ulok..


Alam nyo ba ang nangyari? Tinawanan nila ako kasi nga bastos daw ako,, ahahahha ewan ko sa kanila kung bakit ako naging bastos..Then, I found out the meaning:


"Ulok-ulok" in bisaya pala is “special part/Private Part of their body”
at ang ulok-ulok sa amin ay baby palaka..wahahahha


Bakukang in Bisaya is a kind of bug.
Bakukang in Ilonggo is a scar that they sometimes call colloid.

Pilas for cebuanos is rashes.
Pilas for ilonggos is wound, either big or small,fatal or not.

Most of all, when they find out that they are talking to an ilonggo, cebuanos try to imitate hiligaynon but tend to over use the "haw", "ya" and "gid"
and when you hear them you can't really help but laugh coz they really sound so funny.
